FCTA moves to reclaim Gwarinpa road corridors

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has vowed to reclaim the road 69 in Gwarimpa district, even as it intensified the demolition of shanties and other illegal structures inhabited by suspected criminals in the district.
Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah, who lamented the rate of illegal structures springing up on road corridors, said the administration will go harder on such illegal squatters.
Attah who led a team to the a cleanup exercise in the area noted that there are so much illegalities, ungoverned space, inappropriate development, criminal hideouts in the area.
He said, “This is part of reclaiming road 69 and everyday, we discover more and more things. Nobody would ever think that people actually live here. People have to go extra miles distorting their buildings so criminals don’t access them. Here people block their windows and increase their high fences to so criminals don’t jump into their properties. Where would people build large structures without any approval and spend so much money, it is very painful here but we need to keep Abuja clean and safe for everyone. The Minister has given a matching order to go and do our jobs and we must go out daily to do this.
“It is normal thing to discover drugs in this type of society, people are arrested for possession of illicit drugs.what they cannot do in sane society they do, because they have cover.”
On sustainability, he said there is no going back on ridding Abuja of illegalities.
