Tribunal removal of AMAC chair “miscarriage of justice” – Group

A socio-political group under the aegis of Concerned Youths for Good Governance, CYGG, has faulted the tribunal ruling that removed the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, as miscarriage of justice.
Justice Muninat Oyekan led FCT Election Tribunal sacked Christopher Maikalangu of the PDP on August 5 2022 barely two months after assuming office.
In a petition, the group seeks to stop the enforcement of the judgment and called on the National Judicial Council, and other stakeholders to intervene in the interest of justice.
Speaking after submitting its petition on Monday in Abuja, the National Coordinator of CYGG, Comrade Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, said: “We have observed with keen interest the political development in the country, especially the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
“We have come to a conclusion that the judiciary, which has always been the last hope of the common man, is gradually derailing from its original purpose and we cannot allow the good name of the judiciary to be dragged on the mud by some selected few.”
He stressed that his group was not blaming the entire judiciary for the lapses that have befallen the judicial system, “but we believe that some selected few amongst the good ones in the system have sold their conscience just to please their ‘pay masters’.
