Diaspora Alumni of GGSS/MGHS Awards Scholarships, Financial Awards To Students

The Government Girls’ Secondary School/Methodist Girls’ High School Alumni Association in the Diaspora, Inc. (GGSS/MGHS Alumni Association in the Diaspora, Inc.) announced the presentation of two financial awards and continuation of two scholarships to students at the Methodist Girls’ High School, Harbour Road, Port-Harcourt, Nigeria on Monday, August 29, 2022.

Representing GGSS/MGHS Alumni Association in the Diaspora, Inc., Ms. Ibiso Graham Douglas presented the Ambassador Bolere Elizabeth Ketebu Science Award and the Alumni Diaspora Excelsior Award to Shalom Benrich and Awajionyi Bernard, respectively.   The Association is also continuing its Alumni Diaspora Enabler Scholarship and the Nkem Ahiakwo Memorial Scholarship For Academic Excellence to Haruna Queeneth Amakiri and Blessing Obarianesime Obasi, respectively.   Speaking on behalf of herself, the Proprietor, Advisory Council, Management and staff, and the Students of the school, the school’s Principal Rev. Sele Okardi expressed their “heartfelt gratitude to the Old Girls in the Diaspora for their endearing love and gesture to the school, especially, for the Excelsior and Ambassador Bolere Ketebu awards; the recipients are grateful.  Presenting the awards at the graduation ceremony boosted the image of the school.  Parents were excited and appreciative.” She prayed to God to bless and always prosper the works of the hands of the Old Girls in the Diaspora.     

The goal of the GGSS/MGHS Alumni Association in the Diaspora, Inc. is to advance the mutual welfare of GGSS/MGHS and its alumni in the Diaspora. The President of the Association, Dr. Anne Medinus Benibo said  “The organization provides these awards in fulfillment of its third objective, which is to provide opportunities for alumni to remain connected and to serve the school. In fulfillment of the Association’s Cardinal Project number 1, scholarships were awarded to two Indigent students to enable them to stay in school and towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 1: End Extreme Poverty.  To empower the future generation of girls and motivate them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, two monetary awards were also given to students who excelled in all areas.  This is also in fulfillment of the Association’s Cardinal Project 3 and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality.   We cherish our experiences at GGSS, a public school which evolved into MGHS, a private parochial school.” 

Government Girls’ Secondary School/Methodist Girls’ High School Alumni Association in the Diaspora, Inc. was formed three years ago, incorporated in January 2020 as a charity organization and became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in March 2021.
