Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will not be deterred by the antics of paid protesters, who deliberately seek to steer the administration off its mandate of returning the FCT back on project sites.
The minister who made the commitment while flagging off the second phase of resurfacing and remedial works on some roads within Asokoro district, vowed to continue to make hard decisions will have impact on residents of the FCT.
Wike, told those protesting his administration policies that the projects he is embarking on, were borne out of the desire to deliver on the Presidential mandate given to him.
The minister noted that the administration of Tinubu has good plans for Nigerians, but hard decisions must be taken to actualize it through the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
According to him, Tinubu has given him a marching order to make Abuja a city that Nigerians will be proud of, stressing that new results cannot be achieved through old methods of doing things.
He said, “President Bola Tinubu has given back hope to Nigerians and to the residents of FCT. When were sworn in Tinubu gave a marching order to the Minister of State and myself, to do everything humanly possible to bring back FCT to what a city should be.
“I don’t have the time see people who were protesting against me, I am busy and don’t want to be distracted. I want to be focused and deliver on the mandate given to us by Mr. President.
“You must be strong and courageous to take decisions, and we have taken decisions to make our people happy. This administration has taken a decision to make sure we work for the people as the President has mandated.
“When you bring policies that will bring change , few people who benefit will kick against the change, but when you are focused, they will come back to align.
“We must take decisions, no matter how hard they are, what is important is that at the end of the day, the people should benefit from it”, he added.
The minister further explained that the second phase of road resurfacing when completed, will make Abuja to wear a new look.
Earlier, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, pointed that over the years, the roads have weathered the effects of time and usage, thereby leading to potholes and a general deterioration of their condition.
“However, the resurfacing of road networks marks a significant step towards revitalizing our infrastructure and enhancing the overall quality of life for our residents.
“As we witness the resurfacing efforts unfold, it is essential to recognize the numerous benefits that will arise. Firstly, improved road surfaces mean safer journeys for commuters. The elimination of potholes and uneven pavement reduces the risk of accidents and vehicle damage, promoting not only safety but also efficiency in transportation.
“Moreover, resurfaced roads contribute to a more aesthetically pleasing urban environment. Cracked and worn-out roads not only compromise the visual appeal of our city but also convey a sense of neglect.”
The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Arab Contractors, OAO, Nigeria Limited, Mohammed El Assar, pledged his company’s readiness to deliver quality work in line with the specifications given by the FCT Administration.
