FTAN seeks stronger partnership with government to boost tourism

The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, FTAN, has called for a National Tourism Summit to address challenges in the country’s tourism industry.

FTAN President, Mr. Nkereuwem Onung, made the proposal during a meeting with the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, in Abuja.

He emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in driving tourism growth, urging the government to collaborate more with the private sector.

Onung also suggested the establishment of a Council of Tourism Commissioners to strengthen state-level participation, the introduction of a Tourism Satellite Account to measure the sector’s economic impact, and a reduction in multiple taxation for hospitality businesses.

In response, Minister Musawa expressed appreciation for FTAN’s engagement and assured them of the government’s commitment to revitalizing the sector.

She confirmed plans to revive the Presidential Council on Tourism and organize a National Tourism Summit to gather expert input on industry development.

“With Destination 2030: Nigeria Everywhere, our goal is to position Nigeria as a top tourism destination in Africa,” she stated.

The ministry will also discuss key tourism policies at the National Council of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy in Oshogbo next week.
