The governor of Ondo State, Luck Ayedatiwa is facing backlash over recent actions characterized by what critics describe as unlawful dismissals and perceived political favoritism within the state’s administrative apparatus.
The abrupt removal of key officials, notably the head of services, has triggered widespread condemnation and raised questions about the governor’s commitment to due process and institutional integrity.
Reports suggest that the dismissals were prompted by disagreements over fiscal responsibility and adherence to financial regulations, further fueling concerns about governance transparency.
Critics have voiced apprehension over the perceived pattern of appointments based on personal connections rather than professional merit, citing the replacement of ousted officials with individuals closely affiliated with the governor.
A statement by the National Coordinator of Nigeria Civil Society Desk, Comrade Friday Eleojo, said, “Civil Society Organizations and concerned citizens have denounced these actions, calling for transparency and accountability in the decision-making process.
“They condemn these unlawful, unconstitutional, and unprofessional actions and demand accountability and transparency, arguing that appointments based on personal connections can lead to mismanagement of public funds and undermine good governance.
“Local opposition leaders have also criticized Ayedatiwa’s leadership style and called for an immediate investigation into the governor’s actions. They argue that replacing officials based on loyalty rather than competence erodes the state’s institutions and hinders progress and development.
“As the controversy unfolds, citizens are left to wonder about the true motives behind Ayedatiwa’s decisions. Will the state government prioritize serving the public interest and upholding financial regulations, or will personal allegiances continue to influence the course of governance?
“Only time will tell if this storm will force the governor to reconsider his approach or deepen the cracks within the administration, he said.
