The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, says his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is aimed at bringing more development to the council.
Speaking at the APC FCT Unity Rally held Thursday at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, Maikalangu assured his supporters he would not abandon them, stressing that the move was for the benefit of AMAC residents.
“Let me be clear, this move is not about personal ambition. It is about aligning AMAC with the center of power so that we can unlock greater opportunities for our people,” he said.
According to a statement signed by Kingsley Madaki, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the Executive Chairman of AMAC, Maikalangu noted that the Tinubu-led government had already begun impacting lives in AMAC.
“Since the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the appointment of Barrister Nyesom Wike as FCT Minister, we have seen renewed hope in action. Roads are being built, infrastructure is expanding, security is improving, and lives are being touched,” he said.
Maikalangu also praised the appointment of Hon. Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo as the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, describing it as a historic recognition of FCT indigenes.
“To our political family, let me assure you this is not a goodbye. I remain accessible, accountable, and committed to inclusive governance,” he added.
In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said Maikalangu made the right decision by joining the ruling party and commended President Tinubu’s achievements in the FCT.
“All the Area Councils in the FCT are now under the APC. This is proof of the President’s impact,” Ganduje said.
The AMAC chairman called on residents to support President Tinubu, Minister Wike, and other leaders, promising to keep delivering people-oriented projects.
“I pledge my loyalty to the APC family and reaffirm my commitment to always put the people of AMAC first,” Maikalangu said.
