Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has pledged continued support for cultural preservation and the empowerment of women and girls in Kogi State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all.
Speaking at the 2025 Ovia Osese Festival in Ogori, Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, Governor Ododo praised the age-long tradition that celebrates discipline and purity among young girls, describing it as a moral compass for society.
“This festival, which honours young girls who have preserved their purity and discipline, is a shining example of how our culture can promote virtue, character and community strength,” he said.
He noted that the event aligns with his government’s goals of promoting dignity, discipline, and purposeful living among the youth. “As a government, we see our daughters as the future. We are committed to creating opportunities and safe spaces for them to grow, lead, and succeed,” he added.
Ododo commended the Ogori community for preserving the tradition and urged other communities to uphold customs that elevate the moral and developmental aspirations of women and girls.
He highlighted ongoing initiatives across the state to improve gender inclusion, access to education, healthcare, and skill acquisition for girls and women.
The governor emphasized the need to sustain peace and unity in Ogori, adding that Kogi remains one of the states with high levels of women inclusion in governance.
He also encouraged community leaders to collaborate with the government in instilling positive values in the youth, saying the festival is a reminder that discipline and self-respect remain relevant in today’s world.
Governor Ododo called on tourists, cultural enthusiasts, and development partners to support the festival, noting that Kogi is open for tourism, investment, and cultural exchange.
