Founder of Fides et Ratio, an educational service provider, Paul Chukwuma, has denied media report purporting his arrest and detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, saying it is entirely false.
Chukwuma, who spoke through his Media Assistant, Obi Chukwuemeka, in a statement, on Thursday, said he is currently at work in his office and is not in detention as purported by the report.
While alluding to a request by ICPC for sighting of some contract documents signed by the company, he noted that Fides et Ratio has always complied with contractual obligations and adhered to the principles of accountability and transparency.
The Fides CEO stated firmly that ICPC has the mandate to supervise contractual requirements and request documents to ensure compliance, and once ICPC requests such documents to ensure compliance, every law-abiding company is required to comply with the agency’s request and provide requested documentation.
Recall that an online newspaper, Premium Times, had on June 5, 2024 published a story with the headline “EXCLUSIVE: ICPC detains contractor over contract scandal rocking TETFund,” in which it alleged that Chukwuma was “detained by ICPC over his alleged involvement in contract scandal currently rocking the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).”
But the educational service provider said “we wish to state categorically that this report is entirely false. Sir Paul Chukwuma is currently at work in his office and is not in detention.
“Fides et Ratio, founded by Sir Paul Chukwuma, has always complied with contractual obligations and adhered to the principles of accountability and transparency.
“The ICPC has the mandate to supervise contractual requirements and request documents to ensure compliance. Once requested, every law-abiding company is required to comply with the agency’s request and provide requested documentation.
“Fides et Ratio will continue to collaborate with the ICPC to demonstrate adherence to regulatory provisions, as the company is built on transparency and respect for the law.
The educational service provider also urged the general public to disregard any further misleading publications on the subject.
