The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on Tuesday confirmed the recovery of three bodies from the boat accident that occurred on Sunday in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident, which happened on August 17, left several passengers missing. NEMA said the corpses were recovered from Kojiyo, Bari and Wuci communities with the help of the National Inland Waterways Authority, the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency and local divers.
The agency’s team lead, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi, said 22 people were still missing. He also disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force Disaster Response Unit had been drafted to support the search.
According to him, the dam management efforts that reduced the water level have aided rescue operations.
NEMA assured that search and rescue efforts would continue until all victims were accounted for.
