The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI, has trained female Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in new soilless farming techniques.
The Commission said this in a press statement signed by its Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Alex Oturu, who represented the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Dr. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed.
The training was part of the Enterprise of Youth in Agriculture (EYiA) Programme, which ended its 11th cohort on September 26, 2025. The three-month training, which started on July 7, covered greenhouse construction, nursery management, food safety, agronomy, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and gender empowerment.
Special attention was given to women, who were trained in growing habanero, bell pepper, tomato, and cucumber without soil. They also learned extra skills such as knitting, braiding, and digital creativity to increase their income opportunities.
Mr. Oturu said the training is aimed at reducing dependency and promoting sustainable livelihoods among displaced persons. He added that NCFRMI is committed to helping IDPs rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
