NAF commissions water project in Edo Community

The Nigerian Air Force has inaugurated an industrial borehole and 35,000-litre water storage facility in Ohe Community, Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, as part of its Quick Impact Project initiative.

The intervention is aimed at improving access to clean water and boosting community welfare.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the project was commissioned on October 16, 2025, by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gani Audu, commended the NAF for going beyond its security mandate to deliver social impact projects. He said the effort aligns with the state’s grassroots development agenda and strengthens civil-military relations.

Speaking at the event, the CAS said the project forms part of the Service’s Special Intervention and Quick Impact Projects designed to build trust between security agencies and civilians. He explained that the upgrade of the Directorate of Civil-Military Relations to a full branch in 2024 reflects the NAF’s evolving role in humanitarian support and grievance redress.

The Chief of Air Staff also acknowledged Air Vice Marshal Pius Oguega Oahimire, an indigene of the community and Project Coordinator, for recommending a project that meets the direct needs of the people. He urged residents to take ownership and ensure its maintenance.

AVM Oahimire expressed appreciation to the NAF leadership, describing access to clean water as a crucial part of community development and national security. He encouraged the community to safeguard the facility for future generations.

Community leaders, traditional rulers, senior NAF officers and residents attended the ceremony and applauded the military for its continued investment in people-centered development projects.
