Executive council approves N995m for digital education in FCT

As part of efforts to digitalise teaching and learning in the Federal Capital Territory, the Executive Council of the FCT Administration on Monday, approved the sum of N995 million for the procurement of laptops for senior secondary schools in the territory.

The Mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, told journalists after the 10th meeting of the council that over 1000 units of the digital materials will be procurred to help in preparing students for WAEC, NECO and JAMB examinations.

He said that laptops would be distributed to senior secondary schools across the FCT.

“After the transformation of public schools in FCT, the Wike-led FCT is going further to digitalise the education delivery system,” he said.

According to him, the initiative will assist move FCT schools from normal class room teaching to media education system of learning, adding that it was high time for the students to embrace more of digital learning and teaching than the manual way.

Hayyo said, “The Executive Council of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has approved the procurement and distribution of over 1,000 laptops to senior secondary schools.

“FCT schools will now transform to digital education system, we will now move from normal teaching and learning class room to media education system of learning”

The mandate secretary added that the executive council also approved a contract for the procurement of examination materials to improve the quality of education delivery in FCT.

On his part, the Mandate Secretary for FCT Agriculture and Rural Development, Lawan Geidam, also disclosed that the council approved the procurement and distribution of 250 metric tunnes of fertiliser to farmers in FCT.

He said the tonnes will include NPK, Urea with tonnes of liquid fertiliser to be distributed to farmers across the six area councils for dry season farming.

Lawan said, “the council today at the 10th meeting, has given approval for the procurement of 250 metric tonnes of fertiliser for dry season farming in the territory”

The Executive Council meeting was attended by Minister of state for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, Coordinator Abuja Metropolitan Management Council and Mandate secretaries of various secretariats.
