Maikalangu assures AMAC residents of safety

The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has held a crucial meeting with security agencies to strengthen security in AMAC communities.

The meeting, held at the council’s headquarters, was attended by three Area Commanders, 42 Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, representatives from the Department of State Services, DSS, Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, and other security operatives.

Speaking at the meeting, Maikalangu highlighted the importance of regular consultations among stakeholders to address security challenges across the council.

He also assured residents of AMAC of the council’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“This meeting is essential for us to discuss and resolve security issues affecting your divisions. It will now hold quarterly because of the large number of DPOs and agencies in AMAC. We are not like other local governments with fewer divisions; our security concerns are unique,” he said.

The chairman apologized for the inability to hold the meeting in December, citing a workers’ strike that disrupted activities. “During the festive period, our gates were shut down by staff demanding arrears from as far back as 2011. It was a challenging period, but we are moving forward,” he explained.

Maikalangu urged security agencies to explore political solutions for minor issues within the communities. “Some problems can be handled without involving the courts or detentions. Make our people your friends and engage my council when necessary. Sometimes, small interventions can resolve issues amicably,” he advised.

The chairman reiterated the council’s support for security agencies, emphasizing collaboration as the key to enhancing security across AMAC.
