CISLAC condemns arrest of Kano anti-graft chair

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, has criticized the arrest of Muhuyi Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Monitoring Unit, calling it an attempt to sabotage anti-corruption efforts.

In a statement by its Executive Director, Comrade Auwal Rafsanjani, CISLAC described the arrest as a case of “corruption fighting back,” linking it to the commission’s probe into properties allegedly tied to a prominent All Progressives Congress, APC, figure.

Rimingado was detained on Friday over the seizure of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime. The investigation, involving the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company, was conducted under a court order. Although he was granted bail that night, he was directed to report to Force Headquarters in Abuja for further questioning.

“The IGP must not allow his office to be used to shield powerful figures or derail anti-corruption efforts,” Rafsanjani stated. “Such interference undermines public confidence in state institutions and tarnishes Nigeria’s reputation globally.”

CISLAC urged the police to resist political manipulation and allow justice to prevail, stressing that undermining anti-corruption efforts erodes the integrity of Nigeria’s institutions and international image.
