We won’t allow shoddy jobs, Maikalangu tells contractor

The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has inspected completed and ongoing projects across the council, expressing satisfaction with most works, stating that he has achieved 90% of his development goals.

However, Maikalangu was visibly displeased with the contractor handling the construction of a classroom block at Durumi 3 Primary School, ordering him to replace the substandard materials used for the project.

“I’m not happy with the ceiling you used for this project. Even in your own house, you won’t use this kind of ceiling. I’m instructing you to change it to a modern one.”

“When I assumed office, many communities had no access roads. Whenever it rained, people were stranded in their homes. I promised myself that I would give my people roads, water, health centers, and electricity, and that’s exactly what I am delivering,” he said

Addressing the media at Sabo Lugbe, Maikalangu urged residents to report contractors using substandard materials.

“We are spending millions on these projects, and we expect value for money. I don’t want to hear that a road we constructed starts having problems after a few weeks. If you see a contractor using inferior materials, report to me immediately,” he warned.

At Pyakasa, the chairman supervised the construction of a town hall, which was 60% completed. The Dakachi of Kakwa Pyakasa, Chief James Shekwagu, appreciated the intervention but appealed for government intervention in resolving a road dispute with Abuja Technology Village.

A teacher at LEA Primary School, Pyakasa, James Peter, also requested a perimeter fence and security to prevent vandalism in the school.

At LEA Primary School, Garki, Maikalangu inspected the renovation of seven classrooms and assured the school of 10 additional teachers before the end of February.

Head Teacher Kasmin, Karshi thanked the chairman for the renovation but appealed for more teachers to support learning.

“We don’t have enough teachers. We appreciate the chairman for renovating the school and providing chairs, but we still need teachers,” he said.

In Garki Primary Healthcare Center (PHC), Maikalangu inspected the newly added building and other renovations.

The Officer in Charge (OIC), Mrs. Monica Victor Jacob, commended the chairman, saying, “Our women now give birth effortlessly at night because of the solar lights installed by the chairman.”

He also inspected a 600-meter road project with dual drainage and the ongoing construction of a new PHC in the area.

Maikalangu also visited several road projects across communities:
Waru-Yimitu Road: 1.5km Phase 1, 1km Phase 2,
Galadimawa: 300m road with drainage, Kuchigoro: Access road rehabilitation, Lugbe: 2km road project near a primary school, Gosa: 2.4km completed road, Toge: 1.5km completed road, Sabo Lugbe: 1km completed road

Community leaders and residents commended the chairman for the developments, urging him to seek re-election in 2026.

A resident of Gosa, Nuhu Aota, said, “Before now, we lived with dust and muddy roads. Now, we have tarred roads and streetlights. Maikalangu has done well and deserves a second term.”

At Toge, Ayuba Ishaya said the community had never witnessed such development and appealed for a health center. “Our pregnant women suffer a lot. We need a healthcare facility,” he said.
