Ododo pledges stronger ties with media, launches first Kogi media report

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the media as a means of promoting transparency and accountability in governance.

The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, made the pledge during the official launch of Kogi’s first Annual Media Performance Report in Lokoja.

Describing the report as a “landmark initiative,” Governor Ododo said it reflects the administration’s resolve to uphold open governance and strengthen public trust through accurate and impactful communication.

“Effective communication is not only about the volume of coverage but the accuracy, sentiment, and impact of the information shared with the public,” Ododo said.

He urged media practitioners to remain objective and truthful in their reporting, noting that “the government does not support exaggerated claims, but rather believes in truthfully communicating achievements of the administration.”

The governor praised the efforts of his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, and his team for delivering what he described as a report that reflects the administration’s values of teamwork and open dialogue.

Ododo also commended journalists across the state and beyond for their sacrifices and role in shaping public opinion. “This administration will continue to facilitate direct engagement with the media, knowing the critical role it plays in strengthening democracy,” he said.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, said the report is both a reflection of past performance and a strategic tool to improve future communication.

“This is not just a retrospective analysis, but a forward-looking tool to refine future communication strategies,” Isah noted, while thanking the governor for his support and calling for sustained media-government collaboration.

Also speaking, Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone D and General Manager of Prime FM Lokoja, Momoh Jimoh Adeiza, described the report as a “major achievement” and urged the government to further support the media to enable journalists carry out their duties effectively.

The report was made available by the Government House Media Team in a press release dated April 9, 2025.
