AMAC dismiss certificate forgery allegation as baseless

The office of the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, has strongly denied recent allegations of certificate forgery leveled against the council’s chairman, Hon Christopher Maikalangu, describing it as false and politically motivated.

The allegations, brought forward by Awalu Mohammed, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in case number CR/DUT/324/25, dated March 24, accused Maikalangu of submitting forged First School Leaving Certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in 2013 and 2021.

According to Mohammed, Zakka allegedly submitted a forged First School Leaving Certificate from Festival Road Primary School (1983–1989) to the FCT INEC office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, on or about January 8, 2013. This certificate, among other documents, was reportedly included in his INEC Form C.F. 001 for a councillorship position, “knowing it to be forged and with intent that it may in any way be used or acted upon as genuine.”

Mohammed further alleged that on or about May 8, 2021, Maikalangu again submitted a forged First School Leaving Certificate — this time from LEA Model Science Primary School (1984–1989) — to INEC for electoral purposes. The document was allegedly submitted along with affidavits for a statutory declaration of age and a name correction on his voter’s card, “knowing them to be forged and with intent that they may in any way be used or acted upon as genuine.”

The case which has Maikalangu as the sole defendant and scheduled for arraignment at the Dutse Magistrates Court, was postponed due to the magistrate’s absence and is now set for April 24.

Reacting to the allegation, Kingsley Madaki, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the AMAC Chairman, expressed shock and dismissed the claims.

“Which certificate forgery again? this matter was thrown out at the FCT tribunal. How can anyone on this earth say the Executive Chairman of AMAC, a two-time Councilor, did not attend Primary School?” he queried.

Madaki maintained that Maikalangu’s credentials are well-documented and that attempts to question his educational background are deliberate efforts to tarnish his image.

He called on the public to disregard the allegations, describing them as distractions aimed at undermining the achievements of the AMAC Chairman.
