Senators hail JAMB’s high-tech surveillance at 2025 UTME

The Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, for its advanced surveillance and monitoring infrastructure deployed for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Muntari Dandutse, gave the commendation on Friday during an oversight visit to Government Secondary School, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, one of the designated UTME centres.

The lawmakers expressed satisfaction with JAMB’s use of Closed-Circuit Television, CCTV, cameras and other digital tracking tools to ensure the integrity and transparency of the examination process nationwide.

“What is important and very fundamental, JAMB has taken care of. Even in cases of malpractice, they have a tracker and nationwide CCTV coverage to monitor all centres. They’ve set a strong standard, no candidate is admitted without due process and merit,” Dandutse noted.

He also praised JAMB’s leadership under its Registrar, for restoring credibility to the examination system and raising the bar for transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s education sector.

“As lawmakers, our duty is to strengthen local institutions and support efforts to make Nigerian education globally competitive. This oversight is part of our responsibility to ensure that government agencies like JAMB remain accountable,” he added.

The senator said the visit underscored the 10th National Assembly’s commitment, under the leadership of the Senate President, to bolstering educational reforms and aligning Nigeria’s tertiary education with global best practices.

During the visit, a UTME candidate, Tunde Charity, shared her experience after completing her exam in the early hours.

“It wasn’t too difficult. I answered most of the questions I studied for. Physics was a bit tricky this year compared to last year, but chemistry, biology and English were okay,” she said.

Charity added that she encountered no technical glitches in the course of the examination.
