The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has published the personal particulars of candidates contesting the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
The Commission, in a statement by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, on Saturday, said 16 political parties beat the May 12 deadline to submit nomination forms for their flagbearers and running mates, marking the close of the candidate nomination phase.
INEC added that its dedicated portal automatically shut down at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, ending the submission window.
The Commission noted that as required under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and outlined in Item 4 of its election timetable, it has displayed copies of each candidate’s Form EC9, including academic qualifications and other submitted documents, at its State Headquarters in Awka and the 21 Local Government Area offices across Anambra.
INEC called on members of the public, especially fellow aspirants, to scrutinise the documents.
It added that any aspirant who participated in the same party primary and has valid grounds to suspect false information can file a suit at the Federal High Court, in line with Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act.
The electoral body further disclosed that the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, which mandates such publication at least 150 days before election day.
It reaffirmed that the Anambra governorship poll will hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
