Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed, has restated his administration’s commitment to revitalizing basic education, describing it as the cornerstone of national development.
Mohammed stated this during a working visit to the headquarters of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, in Abuja, where he stressed the centrality of foundational learning to all other sectors.
“Without basic education, nothing works,” he declared, pledging to deepen his government’s investments in the sector.
The governor said Bauchi State has expansive reach as its educational services extend beyond state boundaries.
“Bauchi is one of the biggest states with access to education, so we also accommodate neighboring states,” he said.
Mohammed applauded UBEC’s support, particularly through the Better Education Service Delivery for All, BESDA, programme, which he said had bolstered infrastructure, enrollment, and teacher development across the state.
He disclosed that Bauchi remains up to date in accessing its UBEC matching grants, a sign of the state’s proactive engagement with federal interventions.
“We have executed numerous projects through BESDA, demonstrating our commitment to transforming education outcomes,” he added.
Welcoming the Governor and his team, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, praised Bauchi’s performance, citing the construction of “mega schools” equipped with modern amenities, likening them to “smart schools” for their cutting-edge design and learning environments.
Garba also commended the recruitment of qualified teachers in the state, describing it as a strategic move toward raising educational standards.
“Bauchi State is not just accessing its matching grants, it is using them transparently and impactfully. This reflects genuine accountability and vision in driving educational reform,” she said.
The UBEC boss assured of the commission’s readiness to continue supporting Bauchi and other states in delivering inclusive, quality basic education across Nigeria.
