The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd, has raised the alarm over what it describes as a coordinated sabotage campaign aimed at derailing its ongoing reforms and tarnishing the integrity of its leadership.
The company, in a strongly-worded statement on Friday, alleged that a syndicate, comprising both known and anonymous actors from within and outside the organisation, has been actively peddling falsehoods and orchestrating a smear campaign to discredit NNPC’s transformation efforts.
NNPC Ltd. alleged that the plot is being driven by individuals and groups threatened by the company’s shift towards transparency, accountability, and performance-driven governance, as directed by President Bola Tinubu.
“This group is actively spreading lies and misinformation simply to discredit NNPC Ltd.’s leadership and derail the organisation’s ongoing transformation into a corruption-free, performance-driven energy company, in line with the mandate of His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports, curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians.
“These are calculated efforts by those who feel threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change—clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution,” the company said.
Despite stating that it anticipates a surge in defamatory materials in the days ahead, NNPC Ltd. affirmed that its leadership remains resolute and unshaken.
“The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it,” the statement declared.
The company called on its workforce, industry stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to remain steadfast, urging them to ignore distractions and continue supporting the transformation agenda.
