The Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, ARCN, Dr. Abubakar Dabban, has urged the National Horticultural Research Institute, NIHORT, to focus on transforming agriculture through research.
Dabban who made the call during a working visit to NIHORT on Thursday, urged all National Agricultural Research Institutes, NARIs, and Federal Colleges of Agriculture, FCAs, to prioritize production to meet national food demands.
A statement by the Head of Public Relations, ARCN, Khadijat Ameen, added that the Executive Secretary also highlighted ongoing efforts to secure funding for research, including a planned memorandum of understanding with TETFUND.
The statement added that the council is updating guidelines and developing a new scheme of service to strengthen coordination and monitoring across institutions.
Meanwhike, the Executive Director of NIHORT, Professor Muhammed Atanda, briefed the ES on the institute’s progress in horticultural research and called for improved funding and motivation to achieve better results.
