FG donates anti-rabies vaccines to UniAbuja

The Federal Government has donated 700 doses of anti-rabies vaccine to the University of Abuja Veterinary Clinic to boost the fight against rabies and strengthen animal health services around the university’s community.

The Federal Government has donated 700 doses of anti-rabies vaccine to the University of Abuja Veterinary Clinic to strengthen veterinary services and support efforts to curb rabies within the institution and its host communities.

Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, Dr Samuel Anzaku, announced the donation during a visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Matthew Adamu, in Abuja.

Dr Anzaku, who represented the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, said the gesture reflects government’s renewed commitment to rabies eradication and its recognition of the university’s role in veterinary research and community health.

According to him, the items donated include 700 doses of anti-rabies vaccine, syringes, cotton wool, disinfectants, and other disease-control consumables. He emphasised the need for proper documentation and reporting of vaccination exercises within the university and its surrounding communities.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Information), Igboamalu Ogochukwu, Anzaku said the collaboration with the university would help expand public vaccination outreach and promote safer livestock practices in Abuja.

Responding, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Matthew Adamu, thanked the ministry for the support and assured that the vaccines would be judiciously utilised for both academic and community health interventions.

“With the appointment of Dr Anzaku as Chief Veterinary Officer and the Federal Government’s renewed focus on livestock health, we expect a positive transformation in disease surveillance and wider access to veterinary care,” Adamu said.

He also urged Nigerian tertiary institutions to establish prototype ranches for teaching, research, and revenue generation, saying such initiatives would advance government policy and improve livestock management nationwide.
