Men of the Nigerian police have arrested two suspected armed robbers in Kano State, and recovered a car that was reportedly stolen from an Air Force officer during a robbery in Abuja.
The vehicle was recovered days after the suspects fled the city with the vehicle after they had invaded the officer’s residence in Karu around 3:15 a.m. on October 29, carting away an undisclosed amount of money, mobile phones, and his car.
Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, said the suspects, Adamu Abubakar of Zoo Road, Kano, and Umar Bello of Nasarawa Tirkania, Kaduna State, were intercepted after operatives traced the stolen vehicle to Kano.
“Upon receiving intelligence that the suspects were heading towards Kano State, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad intercepted the stolen vehicle along the Kano-Zaria Expressway, near Salbas Filling Station,” Kiyawa said.
He disclosed that the suspects engaged the police team in a gun battle during the operation. “In the ensuing exchange, two of the three suspects were demobilized and arrested, while the third suspect escaped,” the statement added.
The fleeing suspect, identified as Dan Malam, reportedly escaped with a pistol and part of the stolen items, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
“The Kano State Police Command is pleased to announce the successful arrest of two notorious armed robbers specialized in car snatching and armed robbery. This achievement stems from actionable intelligence and prompt action by the Command’s operatives,” Kiyawa said.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the synergy between the Intelligence Unit of Force Headquarters in Abuja and the Kano Command, praising their professionalism in the successful operation.
He urged citizens to continue providing credible information to security agencies, assuring that the police remain committed to tracking down the fleeing suspect and bringing all those involved to justice.
