EFCC declares former Bayelsa governor Timipre Sylva wanted over $14.8m fraud allegations

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has declared Timipre Sylva, former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, wanted in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257.

The funds, according to the EFCC, were part of allocations from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a refinery.

Sylva, 61, hails from Brass Local Government Area in Bayelsa State. The EFCC notice states that the declaration follows a November 6, 2025, warrant issued by the Lagos State High Court.

The Commission is urging anyone with information about Sylva’s whereabouts to contact EFCC offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, Abuja, or via phone at 08093322644 or email info@efcc.gov.ng. Information can also be shared at the nearest police station or security agency.

The EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, signed the notice, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to recovering public funds and prosecuting those involved in financial crimes.
