Atiku allies say Lagos APC distracted by political squabble

The Atiku Media Office has taken a swipe at the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress, accusing the ruling party of issuing “hollow and unintelligent statements” instead of addressing the country’s mounting challenges.

In a statement on Thursday, signed by Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the team said the Lagos APC had abandoned real governance concerns and resorted to attacking former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent collaboration with the African Democratic Congress.

Shaibu said the APC had no moral ground to question Atiku’s political choices when, according to him, the Presidency had failed to provide clarity on pressing issues affecting national leadership, economic stability and citizens’ welfare.

He argued that Atiku’s political history, age, records and public life were open and verifiable, adding that those raising dust over his alliance with the ADC were only trying to deflect attention from the administration’s failures.

“The APC should concern itself with the collapsing economy, worsening insecurity and the hardship confronting Nigerians instead of issuing statements that further expose its confusion,” Shaibu said.

He added that the ruling party’s “panic” stemmed from Atiku’s continued relevance and influence, insisting that the former Vice President remained one of the most experienced political figures in the country.

Shaibu maintained that the attacks from the Lagos APC would not derail Atiku’s commitment to national development, restructuring and democratic reforms.
