Wike sacks FCT-IRS acting chairman

By Sarah NEGEDU

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the removal of the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, barely a year after he assumed leadership of the capital’s tax administration.

Though no reason was given for the decision, the Minister in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the directive takes immediate effect.

According to the statement, “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Mr. Michael Ango.”

Olayinka added that a transition has already been activated, saying: “The most senior official of the FCT-IRS has also been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency with immediate effect.”

Ango took charge of the FCT-IRS in August 2024 after being appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, succeeding former acting chairman, Haruna Abdullahi, who left the role after about three years in office.

His appointment came at a time the Service was under pressure to improve tax collection, strengthen compliance, and support the administration’s growing infrastructural commitments.
