The Abuja chapter of the Dynamic Edo Women Worldwide Association, DEWWA, has urged orphans in the Federal Capital Territory not to allow their early life circumstances to dictate their future potential, insisting that hard work, discipline and focus can propel them to greatness.
The advice came during the group’s visit to the City of Refuge Orphanage in Durumi, Abuja, where members shared career guidance, mentorship tips and moral counsel as part of their Christmas outreach.
Coordinator of the Abuja chapter, Mrs Rosemary Ebhodaghe, told the children to believe in their abilities, stressing that history was filled with people who rose from difficult backgrounds to achieve outstanding success.
She said “Many successful people today started from humble beginnings,” she said. “With hard work and determination, you too can achieve greatness.”
The association’s secretary, Mrs Judith Ogedengbe, spoke on academic choices and future ambitions, urging the orphans to align their school subjects with their career interests. She encouraged them to remain committed to their studies and “stay focused on their goals.”
DEWWA’s Public Relations Officer, Stella Ojeme, advised the children to be mindful of the company they keep, warning that peer pressure could destroy promising futures.
“Bad company can derail your dreams,” she told them, encouraging the children to seek mentorship and guidance from trusted adults.
Also speaking, the Financial Secretary, Joan Osunbor, highlighted the importance of faith and moral discipline, asking the children to avoid drugs, cultism and other social vices.
The orphanage’s matron, who represented the manager, A. Darlington, thanked the association for the visit and donation of food items. She said the Durumi branch currently caters to about 50 orphans, aged between 10 and 20, while others are away in secondary schools and universities.
DEWWA is a global network of Edo women focused on philanthropic service and youth empowerment. The Abuja chapter is led by Ebhodaghe and reports to the national leadership headed by Hon. Bose Ihaza.
