The Darul Arqam Islamiyya School has graduated 34 students at its second Qur’anic graduation (walima) and expanded its vocational skills training programme for married women.
The event, which took place in Nasarawa State, attracted Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, education stakeholders, parents and community leaders.
In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Founder of Darul Arqam Islamiyya School, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, Farouq Gagarawa, the graduation was described as a reflection of the school’s commitment to redefining Islamic education in Nigeria.
According to Gagarawa, the graduating students displayed strong mastery of the Holy Qur’an through clear and confident recitations, earning commendation from guests and religious leaders.
He noted that since its establishment, the school has produced over 85 Qur’anic graduates, while continuing to focus on the education of orphans and children from less-privileged backgrounds through a blend of Islamic and Western education.
He explained that the institution was named after Darul Arqam, the first Islamic learning centre during the era of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which played a key role in nurturing early Muslims through knowledge and character development.
Gagarawa added that Dr. Gwarzo has personally sponsored more than 100 orphans and indigent students to acquire both Islamic and formal education, driven by his belief in holistic, value-based learning.
Beyond Qur’anic memorisation, he said the school exposes students to life skills, critical thinking and vocational training to prepare them for modern societal challenges.
The Special Assistant disclosed that the school has introduced an Islamic-oriented journalism and media programme and is working towards establishing a student-run Islamic online television platform to train students in ethical communication and media practice.
He also highlighted the school’s married women section, where participants receive Islamic education alongside vocational training such as catering, detergent production and tailoring, with beneficiaries supported with start-up capital upon completion.
In addition, Gagarawa noted that the institution operates an adult education programme aimed at providing Islamic literacy and basic education for adults who missed such opportunities earlier in life.
He affirmed that Darul Arqam Islamiyya School remains committed to advancing Islamic education and community development through skills acquisition and inclusive learning.
