Body decomposes near Dantata Bridge, residents fault police response

Residents and commuters around Dantata Bridge along Airport Road have raised concern over a body discovered near a high-tension power installation, accusing security agencies of neglect despite repeated distress calls.

Witnesses told reporters that the body was first noticed about two days ago after an individual allegedly attempted to steal high-tension electricity wires in the area. Residents said they immediately alerted the police, but no response followed.

Locals alleged that the individual may have been electrocuted while attempting to tamper with the high-tension cables, though this has not been officially confirmed by authorities.

Reporters observed that the body appeared to be that of an adult male, dressed in a black T-shirt and faded jeans, with a face cap found close to where the body lay. The remains were located not far from the high-tension wire beneath the electricity transmission structure.

As of Thursday, residents said the body had begun to decompose, producing a foul odour and raising public health concerns for road users and nearby communities.

“We have been calling the police for the past two days, but nobody has come,” a resident said. “Now the smell is becoming unbearable.”

The discovery attracted onlookers and caused brief traffic slowdowns as motorists and pedestrians stopped to observe the scene.

Residents called on the police and other relevant authorities to urgently evacuate the body and investigate the alleged cable theft incident to prevent a recurrence.

Efforts to get an official response from the police as of the time of filing this report were unsuccessful.
