Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, declared an end to the era of land speculation in Abuja, warning that anyone holding government land without developing it risks losing such allocation.
Wike, who described Abuja as a fast-developing city with enormous potential for recreation, regretted that progress has often been slowed by landholders who hoard property instead of building.
Speaking during the signing of development agreements with Suburban Broadband Limited and Akida Hills Limited, aimed at transforming Jabi Lake into a world-class recreational hub, the minister warned that, “It is no longer business as usual for those hoarding and speculating government land. For those that have applied for land for development, they will get it done in the next six months, and we will revoke it if it is not done.”
The proposed transformation of Jabi Lake into a world-class recreational hub in the heart of Abuja is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and elevate the city’s status as a destination for entertainment and leisure.
Speaking at the ceremony, Suburban Broadband Limited representative Mr. Pankaj Khandelwal described the agreement as “a landmark for our organization,” adding that the project will generate significant socio-economic growth and employment opportunities for the FCT.
Meanwhile, Bamisile Olukayode, who represented Akida Hills Limited at the brief ceremony, said the development would rival global attractions such as Times Square in New York and the Dubai Fountain Water Show.
He assured that the project would be completed before the end of the year, placing Abuja among world-class cities globally.
