The Independent National Electoral Commission has started collating results of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections at its office in Karu.
By afternoon, INEC officials were already at work, sorting documents, checking result sheets and setting up communication lines for the exercise.
Party agents, election observers and security officers were also seen around the premises as the process got underway.
Journalists gathered at the centre, waiting for updates on the outcome of the polls.
Outside the office, small groups of supporters waited and discussed the election while checking their phones for news.
The atmosphere was calm but serious, as officials prepared to receive and confirm results from different areas.
An INEC source said the commission would make announcements after the verification of results.
With voting now over across the FCT, attention has shifted to Karu, where the final figures will decide the winners of the election.
