Tinubu swears in Disu as new Inspector-General of Police

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police at a ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

Disu took the oath of office at about 2:53 pm after his citation was read by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye.

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Federal Executive Council and other top government officials.

Tinubu arrived at the Council Chambers at about 2:48 pm, after which the National Anthem was rendered before the swearing-in ceremony commenced.

Immediately after administering the oath on the new police chief, the President also swore in newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Federal Civil Service Commission.

The event preceded the Federal Executive Council meeting, which began shortly after the swearing-in ceremony.

The newly sworn-in officials of the Federal Civil Service Commission include Prof. Ngbea Gabriel from Benue State and Omoregie Idahagbon from Edo State.

Those appointed into the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission include Abubakar Wamakko (Sokoto), Marafa Abba (Taraba), Ahmed Waziri (Adamawa), Hadizatu Mustapha (Borno), Helen Bob (Bayelsa) and Oladele Gboyega (Osun).

Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police followed the unanimous endorsement of his nomination by the Nigeria Police Council earlier in the week.

The new police chief was recently appointed in an acting capacity by the President following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, on February 23, 2026.

Disu, who joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, had served in several strategic positions before his appointment.

Before becoming the Inspector-General of Police, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit and the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos.
