President Bola Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and international missions.
Among those posted are former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode; former presidential aide, Reno Omokri; and a former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd).
The appointments also include Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, Senator Ita Enang, former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, and former INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.
The postings were announced in a statement on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the President approved the deployment of 31 career ambassadors and 34 non-career ambassadors to different diplomatic missions across the world and the United Nations.
Some of the notable postings include Fani-Kayode to Germany, Omokri to Mexico, Dambazau to China, and Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Others include Grace Bent to Togo, Ita Enang to South Africa, Ikpeazu to Spain, and Prof. Isaac Adewole to Canada.
The statement added that the Senate had confirmed the ambassadors-designate in December last year.
It also disclosed that the Federal Government had already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, while France had approved the appointment of Ayodele Oke as ambassador.
According to the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries for diplomatic approval.
Tinubu also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate ahead of their deployment to their missions.
