Tinubu approves posting of 65 ambassadors to foreign missions, UN

President Bola Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions abroad and the United Nations.

The appointments comprise 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors, whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the postings in a statement issued on Friday.

Among the non-career envoys, former Ita Enang has been posted to South Africa, while Reno Omokri will serve in Mexico City, Mexico.

Former Isaac Folorunso Adewole was posted to Ottawa, while ex-Lagos Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro will represent Nigeria in Australia.

Other prominent postings include Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke, to France, and retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China.

Similarly, Jimoh Ibrahim has been appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lateef Kayode Are, will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States.

Other non-career ambassadors include Grace Bent, Togo, Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu, Israel, Mahmud Yakubu, Qatar, and Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Philippines, among others.

The career ambassadorial postings cover several strategic missions across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

These include assignments to Egypt, Italy, India, Iran, Belgium, Switzerland, Thailand, and several African countries including Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, Morocco, and Tanzania.

According to the Presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has granted approval for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also transmitted the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries, requesting agrément in line with diplomatic protocol.

Tinubu has further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their deployment to their various missions.
