Wike set to extend infrastructure to Waru-Pozema

By Sarah NEGEDU

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dropped hints of plans to provide necessary infrastructure in the newly created Waru-Pozema district, in order to open up the area for development.
The minister made the announcement on Thursday after inspecting several ongoing projects across the Federal Capital Territory, including the Appeal Court Dakibiyu, judges’ quarters at Katampe, CN2 road in Katampe, and the OSEX main carriageway leading to Wassa-Apo.
Wike, while taking questions from journalists after the tour of projects, assured that the FCT Administration would work with relevant agencies including the Federal Capital Development Authority, Satellite Towns Development Department, to determine the possibility of providing basic infrastructure in the district.
On the next steps for the district, the minister said, “About the new district of Waru-Pozema in Cadastral Zone D16, we have to find out from the FCDA or the coordinator what they have in mind, whether it is in the 2026 budget. Don’t worry, we will do everything we can to provide the needed infrastructure and open up the district so that people can move in.”
Though the minister did not give specific timeline, he assured that efforts are being made to integrate Waru-Pozema into the territory’s development plans.
Meanwhile, the minister expressed satisfaction with the level or work done on the ongoing the projects. At the Appeal Court Dakibiyu division, Wike said contractors assured him that the project would be completed by May.
He further noted that the judges’ quarters, including the Federal High Court section, have already been furnished. “The Federal High Court has 10 duplexes, the FCT High Court 20 duplexes, and the Court of Appeal 10 duplexes. All these projects will be inaugurated during Mr. President’s third-year anniversary.”
The minister also visited CN2 road in Katampe, which he described as functioning like a ring road. He praised the contractor, for keeping to schedules and maintaining quality.
“It’s one of those companies when they give you their word, you can go to the bank with it,” Wike said, while also commending the FCT Administration for supervising the projects effectively.
At the OSEX main carriageway leading to Wassa-Apo, Wike said about four kilometres of asphalt remain to be laid. He described the projects as part of a broader infrastructure programme scheduled for inauguration during the President’s third-year anniversary.
The minister also spoke on political issues, urging unity within the Peoples Democratic Party. He said sincere reconciliation within the party must precede any discussions about future electoral strategies.
Referring to the PDP’s convention scheduled for the 29th and 30th of this month, the minister said, “First thing now is to make sure the parties are united after the convention, we will now talk about the next step.”
