The United States government has announced a reward of up to $10m for information on Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and several other senior Iranian officials.
The offer was made through the US State Department’s Rewards for Justice programme, which seeks information that could help disrupt activities linked to terrorism.
According to the programme, the reward targets individuals believed to be connected to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an organisation Washington has designated as a terrorist group.
Among those listed are Iran’s Minister of Intelligence, Esmail Khatib; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Supreme Leader, Ali Asghar Hejazi; senior military adviser Yahya Rahim Safavi; Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni; and Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council.
The US authorities said individuals with credible information about the officials or their activities could submit tips through secure communication channels.
The government added that informants whose information leads to significant breakthroughs may qualify for the reward and could also be considered for relocation.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran following recent developments in the Middle East.
