Many feared dead as bomb explosions rock Maiduguri

Several people are feared dead and many others injured following multiple bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Monday evening.

The blasts reportedly occurred in different parts of the city shortly after residents broke their Ramadan fast, causing panic among residents and traders.

Eyewitnesses said the explosions triggered chaos as people fled the affected areas while security operatives moved in to cordon off the scenes.

Emergency responders were also deployed to the locations to assist victims and evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals.

Although the exact number of casualties had yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report, several people were feared dead while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Security agencies have since intensified surveillance in the city as investigations continue into the incident.

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, has experienced several insurgent-related attacks over the years linked to activities of extremist groups operating in the region.

Authorities are expected to provide further details on the explosions and the casualty figures as rescue operations continue.
