Sanusi to lead Sallah durbar as Kano tightens security

The Kano State Government has confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the Hawan Idi (Eid durbar) during the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration amid heightened security measures.

The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that intelligence reports indicated plans by some individuals to disrupt the peace during the festivities.

He said the government had received credible information from the State Security Council about attempts to create confusion and breakdown of law and order during the Sallah period.

Waiya stated that while the government remains committed to preserving the cultural heritage of Kano, it would not compromise on maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.

He explained that the durbar procession would be led by the Emir from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.

The government added that some traditional activities would be modified, with Hawan Nasarawa proceeding without horseback riding, while other processions such as Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi had been suspended for safety reasons.

Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and enforce compliance with the directives to prevent any breach of peace before, during, and after the celebrations.

Residents were also urged to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies, and avoid spreading unverified information.

The government commended security personnel for their dedication and wished residents a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
