The National Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday received 100 Nigerian returnees from Algeria at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The returnees arrived at about 2:40 p.m. at the cargo terminal aboard an Air Algerie flight as part of the Assisted Voluntary Return programme coordinated by the International Organization for Migration in collaboration with the Federal Government.
NEMA disclosed that the exercise was carried out in partnership with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
According to the agency, the returnees comprised 96 adults, including 77 males and 19 females, as well as four infants made up of two males and two females.
Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation of the returnees upon arrival to ensure proper profiling and facilitate their reintegration.
NEMA said the returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian support, including food, water, medical care, and logistics assistance.
The agency added that counselling services were also offered to ensure a smooth and organised reception process.
It reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe, dignified and humane return of Nigerian citizens stranded abroad.
