4 nabbed impersonating Wike in N150m land fraud

The police have arrested four men accused of running a land fraud syndicate that used the name of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to allegedly swindle a retired senior military officer and several others of more than N150 million.

The operation came to light after the arrest of Yashim Kajang at his residence at No. 3 Martin Elegoma Street, Nigeria Army Post Housing E, Phase 1, Kurudu, on March 24, 2026, following a petition by retired Major General A. K. Ibrahim, who claimed he was duped in a supposed transaction for land at Guzape II.

According to officials, Kajang allegedly convinced victims that he worked closely with the FCT Minister and the Director of Lands, and then swindled them of huge sums for land documents on Plot 1985 in Guzape II, measuring three hectares, as well as other plots.

Senior Special Assistant on Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, said Kajang did not act alone as he has named three other alleged collaborators during interrogation

His alleged collaborators include Stephen Mhambe and Danladi Jatau, both staff of the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority, and one Terngu Ipaven of Chief Palace Road, Durumi II, Abuja.

The administration further confirmed that Kajang confessed to receiving land data and internal information from the three men to execute the alleged scam.

Olayinka added that all four suspects are currently undergoing further investigation to determine the full scale of the fraud and the number of victims affected.
