Saraki: Friendship with Wike Not Tied to Tinubu Government

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has clarified that his relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, does not translate to political alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Saraki made the remark amid growing political speculation linking his association with Wike to alleged support for the current administration.

Speaking on the issue, the former Kwara State governor stressed that personal relationships among politicians should not be misconstrued as endorsements or alliances. He noted that in Nigeria’s political space, it is possible to maintain friendships across party lines without compromising one’s political stance.

According to him, his interactions with Wike are based on mutual respect and longstanding acquaintance, rather than any form of political collaboration with the ruling government.

Saraki further emphasised his continued commitment to his political ideals, stating that he remains focused on contributing to national development through constructive engagement and principled leadership.

The statement comes against the backdrop of shifting alliances and ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly following the 2023 general elections, where cross-party relationships have drawn increased public attention.

Observers say Saraki’s clarification is aimed at dispelling assumptions about his political loyalties and reaffirming his independence within the opposition space.
