APC assures tight security as 8,453 delegates gather for convention

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress has assured of adequate security as 8,453 delegates converge on Abuja for its national convention scheduled for March 27 and 28.

The convention, to be held at Eagle Square, is expected to attract party leaders, stakeholders, and government officials from across the country.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed the number of delegates during a media briefing, stating that authorities had put in place comprehensive security and logistical arrangements for the event.

He said the convention would reflect the party’s strength, unity, and democratic maturity, adding that no aspect of the preparation had been left to chance.

According to him, the gathering, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” will also provide a platform for leadership contests, policy discussions, and strategic direction for the party.

The minister described the APC as a broad-based platform capable of managing diverse political interests while maintaining cohesion.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Convention Central Working Committee and former Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, said preparations had reached an advanced stage.

Masari noted that about 25 sub-committees had been constituted to oversee key areas of the convention, adding that the process began months ago from ward congresses to national coordination.

“We started this process months ago. Everything is in place. The APC is ready to deliver one of the most organised conventions in Nigeria’s political history,” he said.

With thousands of delegates already arriving in Abuja, security agencies are expected to maintain a strong presence around the venue and other strategic locations to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
