Plateau attack: APC chair hails Tinubu’s visit, demands justice

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State following the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, describing it as a demonstration of empathy and responsive leadership.

Yilwatda, in a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, condemned the attack, which claimed the lives of innocent residents, calling it “inhuman, cowardly and reprehensible.”

He said the President’s visit to the state to commiserate with victims and their families showed national solidarity at a time of grief.

“The continued shedding of innocent blood in Plateau is unacceptable and must no longer be treated with routine responses,” he said.

The APC chairman called for decisive and coordinated action to end the cycle of violence in the state, urging security agencies to adopt modern strategies in tackling insecurity.

He stressed the need for intelligence-driven operations, including the use of technology such as surveillance systems, drones and real-time intelligence gathering to track and neutralise criminal elements.

Yilwatda also urged community leaders and residents to be more vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities, noting that perpetrators of the attacks often exploit local vulnerabilities.

“These criminals are not invisible. They live within or around our communities and must be exposed and brought to justice,” he said.

He warned that continued insecurity poses a threat to Plateau State’s economic potential, particularly in tourism and agriculture, adding that no meaningful development can occur in an atmosphere of fear and violence.

The APC chairman called for a collective approach involving government, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to restore peace and stability in the state.

During the visit, President Tinubu met with government officials, community leaders and families of the victims, offering condolences and assurances of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity.

Yilwatda said the visit was not merely symbolic but a signal of renewed efforts to tackle violent attacks and ensure lasting peace in Plateau State.

He added that those responsible for the killings must be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law, stressing that the lives of citizens remain sacred and non-negotiable.
