Storm damages newly-inaugurated Kugbo bus terminal in Abuja

A heavy rainstorm on Tuesday caused significant damage to the recently completed Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja, raising concerns over the integrity of the structure.

The terminal, which was constructed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, to ease traffic and inaugurated on June 26, 2025, reportedly suffered extensive damage when strong winds tore through parts of the building’s roofing.

Video footage from the scene, now circulating online, shows roofing sheets ripped off the structure and scattered across the Kugbo axis of the Abuja-Keffi highway, resulting in traffic disruption in the area.

According to reports, the project was executed by Planet Projects Limited.

Eyewitnesses in the video could be heard alleging the use of substandard materials in the construction, although these claims have not been verified.

There were no reports of a total structural collapse or casualties, however, the extent of damage to the roof has sparked fresh scrutiny of the project’s quality and durability.

The Kugbo Bus Terminal, designed to ease traffic congestion in the capital, has reportedly remained largely inactive since its inauguration.

The facility is part of a N51 billion contract approved in May 2024 for the construction of three bus terminals in Abuja, including those in Mabushi and the Central Business District.
