A suspected kidnapper has been shot dead during a foiled abduction attempt at the Army Post Service Housing Estate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
The incident occurred around 8:47 p.m. on Thursday when a group of about seven armed men reportedly stormed the estate, firing gunshots to create panic.
Residents said the gunfire alerted security personnel at the estate gate, prompting a swift response from military officers and operatives of the police division in Kurudu.
A resident, Michael Moses, told journalists that security forces engaged the attackers in a gun battle, during which one of the suspects was neutralised.
He said the intervention by the military and police prevented what appeared to be an attempt to abduct a businessman living within the estate.
“The soldiers and police responded quickly. They engaged them, and one of the kidnappers was shot. They stopped the operation,” he said.
The body of the deceased suspect was later taken away by the police.
Spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are ongoing.
Security authorities have yet to provide further details on the identities of the suspects or whether any arrests were made.
