INEC resumes final phase of nationwide voter registration May 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced the resumption of the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise, scheduled to commence on May 11, 2026.

The Commission’s Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, in a statement on Tuesday, said the exercise, which was temporarily suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for the clean-up of the voters’ register, will run until July 10, 2026.

INEC urged all eligible Nigerians, particularly those who have recently turned 18 or missed earlier registration phases, to take advantage of the window to register.

The Commission also encouraged already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, or update their biodata to participate in the exercise.

According to the Commission, eligible citizens can complete their registration through its online portal or visit INEC offices at the state and local government levels across the country.

As part of the process, INEC disclosed that the provisional Register of Voters will be displayed for public scrutiny from July 23 to July 29, 2026.

The exercise, it noted, is designed to allow citizens to raise claims and objections, thereby enhancing the credibility and integrity of the register.

The Commission assured Nigerians that all necessary logistics have been put in place to ensure a seamless exercise and called for widespread participation to strengthen the nation’s democratic process.
