Amaechi wins ADC presidential primary in Ebonyi

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary conducted in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi defeated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and another aspirant, Muhammad Hayatuddeen, in the exercise conducted across the state’s political wards.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer for the election, Bassey Imoke, said Amaechi secured 6,050 votes to emerge victorious.

He said Hayatuddeen polled 4,840 votes, while Atiku got 1,210 votes.

Imoke stated that the primary election was conducted through the direct voting system across the 171 wards in the state.

According to him, over 12,000 delegates participated in the exercise.

He described the process as peaceful and orderly, adding that all accredited delegates were allowed to vote.

The Ebonyi State Chairman of the ADC, Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, also commended party members for what she described as a peaceful and credible exercise.

She said the direct primary system was adopted to promote inclusiveness and ensure wider participation of party members across the state.

Adibe-Nwafor congratulated Amaechi on his victory and praised party members for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Paschal Okafor, described the election as free, fair and transparent.
