The United States Mission in Nigeria has opened applications for the 2026 cohort of the EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Programme aimed at supporting qualified Nigerian students seeking admission into higher institutions in the United States.
According to the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria, applications opened on June 15 and will close on June 30, 2026.
The programme, coordinated through EducationUSA Nigeria, is designed to assist academically outstanding students with strong leadership potential in pursuing higher education opportunities in the United States.
The mission said the initiative seeks to expand access to U.S. education while promoting educational and economic cooperation between both countries.
It noted that the 2026 cohort aligns with the Freedom 250 celebration, commemorating 250 years of American leadership, innovation and democratic values.
The Opportunity Fund Programme provides financial assistance to successful applicants by covering key application expenses, including standardised testing fees, application fees and other related costs.
Priority consideration will be given to students with exceptional academic records, particularly those pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership ability, research potential and a commitment to pursuing post-secondary education in the United States.
Applicants are also expected to comply with U.S. visa regulations and maintain high standards of integrity and accountability throughout the programme.
Interested candidates are required to submit completed application forms, academic records, personal statements and other supporting documents before the June 30 deadline.
The U.S. Mission encouraged eligible Nigerian students to take advantage of the opportunity to access quality higher education and build skills that will contribute to national and global development.
